New Delhi: Father and other relatives of mob lynching victim Qari Mohammed Owais arrived at Chandni Chowk police station and met high officials. Expressing dissatisfaction over police action they demanded to book intentional murder case against the killers instead of unintentional murder.
Chairman Delhi Waqf Board Amanatullah Khan, Kairana MLA Naheed Hasan along with their friends staged dharna inside the police station. Meanwhile, councilor Mohammed Iqbal reached the police station and raised questions on police’s performance. On the other hand, police said it cannot register a case until the post mortem report is received.
Two friends of Owais who were with him when the incident occurred told in the statement that they had gone to the shop to buy some mobile accessory. They entered into an argument with the shop owner, resulting into a scuffle. Later nearly 20 shop owners began beating Qari Owais. They had surrounded Owais and were shouting ‘kill him’.
Qari Owais’ father complained that police have not handed over the copy of FIR to him. When he was given the copy it was found that the case was booked under section 304 and only two persons were arrested.
