Kin of dead patient attack doctor

Hyderabad, April 04: Mild tension prevailed at the Osmania General Hospital (OGH) today after relatives of a patient, who died undergoing treatment, attack a doctor blaming him for the death.

Resenting the move, doctors staged a protest for sometime threatening to boycott duties but hospital authorities pacified them.

According to police, Jehangir (40), a resident of Yakutpura, suffered serious injuries in a road accident on Saturday and was undergoing treatment at the hospital. Jehangir, a flower decorator, was on his way to Kukatpally on work when he came under the wheels of a bus at the central bus station and suffered severe injuries on his legs as the bus wheels ran over them.

Jehangir was admitted to OGH in a serious condition and he died this afternoon.

After the death of Jehangir, his kin alleged that negligence of Dr Venkat Ram led to the death of the patient.

“They beat up the doctor blaming him for the death and this led to tension,’’ Afzalgunj police inspector B Anand said.

Soon, all doctors in the hospital gathered and staged a demonstration demanding action against the attackers. Else, they threatened to boycott their duties. Senior hospital authorities reached the place and pacified the agitating doctors to withdraw from their protest.

Later, a case was registered against the attackers with Afzalgunj police. “We will identify the attackers and arrest them,’’ the inspector said.
