Mumbai, October 16: A 22-year-old woman killed her two sons and committed suicide in her Malwani residence on Thursday evening. According to the police, Amravati Gupta killed herself and her children Siddharth, 3 and the one and a half-year-old son by pouring kerosene and lighting a matchstick.

Amravati’s husband Jaisindh, a milkman, had brought the three to Mumbai from their village in Uttar Pradesh only three days ago. Police said the incident took place around 4 pm. Seeing smoke coming out, the neighbours rushed to Gupta’s house and found the three burning. The injured were rushed to Bhagwati Hospital where they were declared dead before admission. “The woman and the kids suffered 100% burns,” said senior inspector Jaywant Hargude of Malwani police station.
Police said that Amravati did not leave any suicide note. Gupta’s neighbours told to police that she looked tensed most of the time and did not talk to anyone. “The reason behind the suicide is not yet clear,” said Hargude adding that they are investigating if Jaisindh is responsible for the extreme step taken by his wife.
