New Delhi: After Central Government disclosed its decision to deport all Rohingya Muslims living in India, they are living in the fear.
Talking to media, one of the Rohingya Muslims residing in a refugee camp in New Delhi, Ms. Haleema said that they had struggled a lot to save their lives in Myanmar and reach India. Speaking on Government’s decision to deport, she said, “Kill us here instead of sending us back to Myanmar”.
With tears in the eyes, she said, “If we are killed here, we will at least get grave”. She further questioned why victimizing the victims.
It may be mentioned that earlier, Minister of State for Home Affairs Kiren Rijiju had told parliament that the states were directed to identify and deport illegal immigrants. He later told a news agency that all Rohingyas, including those registered with UNHCR, are illegal immigrants.
Reacting to this decision, Mr. Zeid Ra’ad al-Hussein, High commissioner of the Office of the United Nations High Commissioner for Human Rights said that “I deplore current measures in India to deport Rohingyas at a time of such violence against them in their country”. He further said, “India cannot carry out collective expulsions, or return people to a place where they risk torture or other serious violations.”

However, Ambassador Rajiv K. Chander, the Permanent Representative of India to the United Nations, on Tuesday expressed its disapproval with remarks made by Mr. Zeid Ra’ad Al Hussein
It may be mentioned that since an upsurge in violence late last month, 370,000 Rohingya have fled Myanmar and entered Bangladesh, the United Nations said on Tuesday.
Joseph Tripura, a spokesman for the UN refugee agency said, “An estimated 370,000 Rohingya have entered Bangladesh after fleeing violence in Myanmar’s Rakhine state since August 25”.
