Hyderabad, January 11: Sensitisation programme for restoration of the historic Hussain Sagar were conducted in the slum school situated near the nala connecting the lake on Monday. In a move to make the lake surroundings a plastic-free zone, Chatri, a voluntary team organised an awareness programs in Boon High School situated at Prakash Nagar.
The initiative was part of the Hussain Sagar Lake & Catchment Area Improvement Project (HSL&CAIP). “As slums surrounding the lake contribute much in flow of plastic and other solid waste, the programme was held here,” informed Md Ashfaq, a volunteer.
School children gave speech presentations on hazardous use of plastics and participated in drawing competitions depicting use of dust bins and keeping the surroundings clean. School kids were also taught about ill-effects of gender discrimination in society.
