Kids Can Reduce BP For Parents

Washington, January 20: Contrary to what a lot of people feel, kids can actually reduce blood pressure in parents. This has been claimed by a recent research. Generally a lot of people think that the worries that come with parenthood like education, expense, health can cause the blood pressure to shot up.

However, according to the recent study parenthood can benefit the human heart in the same way exercise or dieting does. The research has been performed at Utah’s Brigham Young University. The researchers have also found that the effects are felt more by mothers than fathers.

However, the researchers think that having a lot of kids in the family does not mean the parents would be happier than others. The research team conducted the study on a group consisting of 200 adults. A majority of them were parents. Other factors affecting blood pressure like weight, age and smoking were also taken into account. The study revealed that on an average, parents had reduced blood pressure compared to those who did not have kids. The difference is not much but it is significant according to the researchers.

The discovery can spark a fresh debate in the medical community. However, no concrete resolution on the subject can be reached based on a single research. It is not enough to have kids to keep your hearts healthy. The benefits of exercise and a balanced diet cannot be ruled out under any circumstances. The details of the study need to be known before it is accepted as valid and universal. It may make the couples in troubled marriages do a rethink before they part ways.
