Kidnapped man rescued within an hour

Hyderabad, March 20: Quick response helped the Cyberabad police on Friday rescue a private company owner within an hour of his abduction from Dundigal.

Purnachand, 51, managing director of Rocks and Minerals company, was travelling in his chauffer-driven Skoda car when it was intercepted at Bachupalli around 2 p.m. K. Ravi Kumar, a transport sub-contractor who had been fighting with Rocks and Minerals company claiming that it owed Rs. 1.51 crore to him, stepped out of Qualis vehicle parked on roadside.

While some of his associates threatened the car driver, others dragged out Purnachand and made him sit in their vehicle. Meanwhile, the company’s executive director, Sudarshan, who was travelling in another car, reached the spot and tried to prevent Kumar and others, but they pushed him aside speeding away in the Qualis.

On receipt of a complaint from Sudarshan over phone, Cyberabad police alerted all police stations flashing the number of the Qualis. Barricades were erected on all trunk routes to intercept the vehicle.

The Ibrahimpatnam police checking vehicles near Indus College of Engineering and Technology saw the Qualis from a distance. Even as they prepared to stop it, the abductors halted few yards away, jumped out of the vehicle and took to their heels. The police managed to catch the Qualis driver and Ravi Kumar after a chase.

During interrogation, Kumar told the police that he used to supply crushed stones and sand to Purnachand’s company and it owed him Rs. 1.51 crore. However, the company maintained that it had paid Rs. 15 lakh in excess to the material supplied by him. Kumar hatched a plot to kidnap Purnachand and settle the dispute, the Alwal ACP, Santosh Kumar, said.
