New Delhi: Two children, aged two and six years, were rescued by the police four days after they were kidnapped by a relative nursing a grudge against their family.
The incident occurred at north west Delhi’s Janakpuri on December 17.
The accused, one Virender Mandal, was staying with the family for the last few days.
After kidnapping the children, he was planning to throw them in a canal in Ballabgarh but backed out due to the presence of people, police said.
“The accused, a rickshaw puller revealed that he was planning to get their daughter married to someone for monetary gain but his plan got scuttled when the family arranged the wedding elsewhere. So he decided to take revenge,” a senior police officer said.
Police zeroed in on the accused based on CCTV footage and arrested him.
