Kidnapped 6-year-old boy rescued

Hyderabad, October 15: The six-year-old child of a realtor, who was kidnapped by his relative for a ransom of Rs 30 lakh, was rescued from the clutches of the abductors within 24 hours by the Task Force sleuths on Wednesday. Five persons, including a former jail warder, were nabbed by the police for the kidnap.

The boy, N Uma Maheshwar Rao, a Class I student of Sister Nivedita School at Dharam Karan Road at Ameerpet was kidnapped while he was on his way to school on October 13.

The boy was going to school with his 22-yearold cousin, B Sandeep, when the kidnap took place. Uma Maheshwar Rao’s father, N V Prasad, is a realtor from S R Nagar. Prasad brought up his nephew, Sandeep, after the latter’s parents passed away.

Sandeep ran away from home in 2002 and worked at bakeries and other places till 2008 and then returned. Prasad made Sandeep in-charge of a boy’s hostel at Dilsukhnagar. Sandeep planned to extract Rs 30 lakh from his uncle as his earnings from the hostel were not enough for his lavish lifestyle. According to the police, Sandeep got acquainted with Alluri Venkanna alias Raju of Krishna district while he was working in a bakery who helped him hatch the kidnap plot. “Though he was brought up by his uncle, Sandeep bore a grudge against Prasad as he felt that the latter was unfair to him in distributing family property,” Task Force DCP V B Kamalasan Reddy said.

Sandeep used a car belonging to one of the accused U Nagaraju and with the help of some others, kidnapped Uma Maheshwar Rao on Tuesday morning. “The accused then made threatening calls demanding the ransom amount in the name of a commander of the Komranna dalam of People’s War Group,” Kamalasan Reddy said. They told Prasad that they had kidnapped Sandeep as well and threatened to kill the boy if the ransom was not paid. On specific information, Task Force sleuths nabbed the five accused near Deer Park at Vanasthalipuram and rescued the boy.

Uma Maheshwar Rao’s mother, Sudha, said that Sandeep’s role in the kidnap was shocking as they had brought him up as their own child.
