Khazi Assayyid Abdurrahman Al Bukhari, a renowned religious leader of Sunni muslims of coastal Karnataka and Kerala passed away in Kerala on February 1.
Popularly known as ‘Tajul Ulema’ and ‘Ullal Thangal’, the Khazi of Ullal was 97 years old and was suffering from multiple age-related illnesses for the past few years. Thousands of people assembled near his house near Payyannur, soon after the news of his demise spread.
He was born in a village near Kozikode and did his primary education there. He obtained M F B degree with first rank from Baqiyathussalihath Sunni seminary, Vellore in Tamil Nadu. He was a great Islamic scholar who served in various capacities like Principal of Arabic College, Khazi of Ullal Dargah, etc. besides being at the helm of various religious and educational activities.
He was a great orator, a messenger of peace, a great guide to the Muslim community of coastal Karnataka and Kerala for nearly 65 years. He had toured Saudi Arabia, Egypt, U.A.E and Malaysia.
A two day holiday was declared to all the educational institutions affiliated to Sayyid Madani Dargah. Health Minister U.T Khader also conveyed his condolences to the family.Courtesy:Karnataka Muslims
