Khawaja’s half-century helps Aussies outclass Bangladesh in World T20

Bangalore: Opener Usman Khawaja struck a sparkling half-century to strengthen Australia cruised to a three-wicket victory over Bangladesh in the World T20 here at M.Chinnaswamy Stadium on Monday.

Khawaja smashed seven boundaries and a six in his brisk 58-run knock as Australia chased down the massive target of 157 runs with nine balls to spare.

Khawaja was well supported by opener Shane Watson (21) as the duo stitched a 62-run partnership for opening stand to provide an initial push to their side.

Glenn Maxwell’s 26 off 15 balls were other notable figures for Australia.

Earlier, Shakib Al Hasan scored significant 33 while Mahamudullah fell just one run short of the half-century to help Bangladesh post 156 for five within their stipulated 20 overs.

For Australia, Adam Zampa grabbed three wickets while Shane Watson also contributed with two wickets.

Zampa was adjudged `Man of the Match` for his brilliant performance with the ball.

Smith’s side will next lock horns with Pakistan at Punjab Cricket Stadium on Friday.

ANI
