Hyderabad, March 29: City Police Commissioner AK Khan has described the clashes in the Old City as an `organised attempt’ by some persons which would be probed by the Special Investigation Team (SIT).
Briefing media about the clashes, Khan said, “It looks like some persons incited the violence deliberately.
The two incidents, one at Madannapet a few days ago and the latest one on Saturday, were executed differently when compared to earlier incidents.” Declining to specify whether local residents or outsiders were behind the incidents, he also denied intelligence failure leading to the violence. “We cannot know until the incident happens. Besides, there is shortage of personnel to deal with violence,’’ Khan said.
He said they would rush in additional forces. “By tomorrow, additional forces from APSP, RA F and CRPF will be deployed,” he added.
Making his priority clear, Khan said the challenge is to make sure that the ongoing SSC examinations pass off without any hindrance.
Five vehicles were damaged in the violence so far.
Revealing the details of a meeting they had with political parties on Sunday, the city police chief said it was made clear that flags and other religious material displayed on the thoroughfares for festivals should be removed the day after the event.
The Commissioner, however, ruled out the violence being a conspiracy to topple Chief Minister K Rosaiah’s government.
Khan was not categorical when asked whether police failed to contain the violence. “It will be analysed during the internal review.
If an officer is found responsible for failing to contain the violence, we will initiate action against him,’’ he said.
Police officials also held meetings with peace committees and discussed ways to restore peace.
