Abu Dhabi, July 04: A number of humanitarian and development projects aimed at supporting children in Afghanistan have been planned by the Khalifa bin Zayed Al Nahyan Foundation (KBZF) and United Nations Children’s Fund (Unicef). An agreement to this effect was signed by the two organisations on Thursday.
“The agreement between the KBZF and the Unicef is one of the many partnerships which the KBZF seeks to build with governmental and private institutions. The aim of these partnerships is to help fulfill the dreams and hopes of under-privileged communities, especially children, who suffer from severe neglect due to wars and unstable economic situations” said KBZF Executive Director Mohammed Haji Al Khoori.
Statistics show that more than two million Afghan children do not attend primary school and literacy levels are declining. Afghanistan is in urgent need of 100,000 qualified primary school teachers, especially women, who represent only 28% of the total number of teachers.
