A key witness in the controversial rape case against self-styled godman Asaram Bapu was shot dead in Uttar Pradesh’s Shahjahanpur district on Friday.
This is the ninth such attack against witnesses so far.
Two men on a motorcycle attacked 35-year-old Kripal Singh, when he was on his way home.
The person riding pillion fired rounds at Kripal, who received injuries in the back.
74-year-old Asaram was accused of raping a 16-year-old schoolgirl at his ashram near Jodhpur in Rajasthan in 2013.
Asaram’s son, Narayan Sai too was booked for alleged rape of two sisters at their ashram in Surat.
Father of the girl, too, has been receiving threats for some time, however he is determined to fight for justice for his child.
Two witnesses have died since the time Asaram has been in jail.
