Thiruvananthapuram, October 16: Terming as ‘unfriendly’, Tamil Nadu’s opposition to carry out a survey for construction of a new dam across the Mullaperiyar river, Kerala today sought Prime Minister Manmohan Singh’s intervention to prevail upon its neighbouring state to desist from such acts.
Chief Minister V S Achuthanandan told reporters that he has written in this regard to Singh and it was for the Centre to call a meeting of both states to discuss the issue.
In his letter, Achuthanandan said such “unfriendly acts” would not only adversely affect good neighbourly relations between the two states, but might also lead to a situation forcing Kerala to react in a similar way.
The Centre’s sanction was only to conduct survey and not for construction of a dam, a matter which was before the Supreme court and Centre, Achuthanandan said.
