Kerala rape, murder: Gehlot meets victim’s mother, assures assistance

Perumbavoor : Union Minister of Social Justice and Empowerment Thawar Chand Gehlot met the mother of the 29-year-old law student, who was brutally raped and murdered on April 28, here on Thursday and assured all assistance from the Centre.

Talking to reporters after meeting the victim’s mother, Gehlot pointed out that he wouldn’t elaborate on what action would be taken by the Centre since the Model Code of Conduct is imposed in the state.

“I have been instructed by the Upper House of Parliament to visit this place. Being a Social Justice Empowerment Minister, I also feel this is my responsibility to come here and should provide them all the possible assistance as per the rules of Government of India,” he added.

Several members of the Rajya Sabha yesterday associated themselves with the Kerala student’s barbaric rape and murder issue and demanded strict action against the culprits. BJP’s Tarun Vijay yesterday demanded in the Rajya Sabha that a central team should visit the state.

Meanwhile, Perumbavoor Deputy Superintendent of Police Anil Kumar has been removed from the team investigating the case.

The move came after no progress was made in the investigation. The investigation team currently has 28 people in it, but no arrests have been made yet in this case. (ANI)
