Kerala Muslims celebrate Eid with fervour

Thiruvananthapuram: Muslims in Kerala flocked to the specially erected Eidgahs across the state and celebrated Eid on Thursday.

Superstar Mammootty was at Eidgah in Kochi, where he resides. Many Eidgahs in the state had special enclosures for women.

Kerala has a population of around 3.34 crore, of which over 88 lakh are Muslim.

The Muslim-dominated Malappuram district witnessed Eid celebrations at its height. At all the Eidgahs, there were special messages by Muslim clerics. In an address in the capital city, they condemned the violent activities of the IS.

The state government has declared a public holiday for all offices on Thursday, while the educational institutions will be closed on Friday as well.

Most meat stalls here were crowded. At some places, the price of mutton touched Rs.650 per kg.
