NEW DELHI: In a time when religious hatred has been making headlines, this photo from the day of the NEET exam in Keralawill warm your heart.
As National Eligibility and Entrance Test (NEET) aspirants in Kerala took the test, largely comprised harried parents found unexpected respite in a mosque.
Regardless of their religion, people from the Malayankad Wadi Hira Masjid and the Masjidul Azhar in Ernakulam district, opened its doors for waiting parents. There were over 1500 students who arrived from far off places to write the NEET exam.
Both the masjids were opened to students and their escorts. They also arranged facilities to sleep overnight who had arrived Saturday night. They also provided facilities for their call of nature and ensure that they were comfortable till their children had completed the exam.
“Since we were aware of the examination,” according to Abdul Rahoof Ibn Rahim, a student activist from Aluva, “we had already made arrangements in nearby homes and shops,” reported NDTV.
Apart from that, some locals too involved in helping the visitors this year and offered filtered water, some tea and snacks for the temporary occupants.
“Anything that may benefit the larger human goodness can be done within a mosque. This is a great thing about Islam,” a representative of Masjidul Azhar which hosted the waiting parents told Manorama News.
A Facebook post with a picture of parents of aspirants waiting at the place of worship and witnessing the Muslims attending their afternoon prayer has been shared on Facebook showed that humanity is a lesson that can be learnt at any age.
This is not the first time Kerala display of religious amity in mosques. On May 7, last year, when they got to know that the people came there from distant places to write the NEET exam, they invited all the waiting parents. The Facebook post garnered a lot of love and generated mass positive response and warmth.
