KASARAGOD: 23-year-old Athira not finding peace at home deserted her family to study Islam and returned after a month as Ayesha.
The Kerala High Court on Monday sent Athira Aka Ayesha along with parents with a condition that she should be allowed to continue her study in Islamic religion, according to The News Minute reports.
Ayesha went with her parents after they promised that they won’t force her to accept Hinduism and she can continue her life according to her wish.
A post graduate student at Government College in Kasaragod, Athira is resident of Uduma of Kasaragod district in Kerala.
On July 10, Athira had left her home leaving behind a 15-page letter that explained her attraction towards Islam and her desire to embrace and keenness to study the religion.
She then called her maternal uncle and said that she was attracted towards Islam leaving home to learn the religion. After her father had filed a Habeas Corpus petition, she appeared before Kerala High Court.
Speaking to the Asiannet news on Thursday after surrendering before the police in Kannur, Ayesha brushed aside the rumours of love-Jihad and ISIS allegations and said that for the past many years she has been studying the religion and has embraced Islam without any compulsion.
“There were many allegations that I have gone to join Islamic State. I have not even taken my passport. I am a bit concerned about people connecting me to IS, but I have no connection with that. I love my parents, I have no problem living with them if they are willing to accept me, but I want to study the Islamic religion,” Athira said.
