A 21-year-old newly wed from Kerala received WhatsApp message of divorce from her husband after four weeks into her marriage. Ten days after the marriage, her husband left for Dubai for his work but three weeks after his departure, he sent her a ‘triple talak’ message on WhatsApp.
The bride’s side gave Rs 10 lakh as dowry to the groom along with 80 sovereigns of gold. The bride is doing her dental studies course in Alapuzha,Kerala.
Following the WhatsApp message, the woman has registered a complaint with the women’s commission’s adalat in Pala, Kottayam.
The commission questioned the validity of a ’WhatsApp talaq’ and demanded the man’s parents to be present during the next hearing.
Meanwhile, the ‘WhatsApp talaq’ has began a brand new debate between the Islamic scholars wondering its validity. A member of the Samastha Kerala Jam-Iyyathul Ulama stated that the talaq is legitimate. Sayyed Attakoya Thangal, the district president of the Ulama stated, “The divorce, on the other hand, might be granted best after protecting discussions with each the person and wife and their members of the family.
If the husband sticks to his stand, divorce will probably be sanctioned.” On the other hand, some other perspective says talaq will have to be accomplished face-to-face or else related paperwork will have to be signed through witnesses.
