Kerala journalist Rajith Ram names daughter after Kathua rape victim

KANNUR: A Facebook post of Kerala journalist changing his newly born daughter name to Asifa K Raj, in a bid to remember the Kathua rape victim is going viral on social media platforms.

In a benevolent gesture, Rajith Ram named his second daughter who was born on February 4 after the 8-year-old nomadic Muslim minor was allegedly held captive in a temple, drugged, gangraped, tortured and brutally murdered.

“I have given name, yes, only that name. Asifa K Raj, She is my daughter,” wrote Rajith below the photograph of the two-month old smiling kid in his Facebook post.

Rajith, a resident of Kannur is sub editor at the Malayalam daily Mathrubhumi of Kannur unit.

“If the daughter who was murdered in Kathua was 8 years old, my eldest daughter is 7 years old. What I have done is one which could be emulated by anyone with a humanly touch. I have decided to do this irrespective of religion or caste. I shared my feeling with my wife and both of us jointly took the decision,” Rajith said, reported the Malayalam daily.

Soon, responses started pouring and the 39-year-old was hailed for his humanly act that has touched the hearts of many.

“This shows how concerned our society is. Such brutality should never happen to another child,” feels Rajith, reported Indian Express.
