Thiruvananthapuram, July 16: Kerala Chief Minister V S Achuthandan said the government would distribute ”Onam kits” to 20 lakh BPL families during the Onam season, the harvest festival of the State.
Briefing weekly-Cabinet decisions to reporters here yesterday, he said during the last Onam festival the government had distributed 18 Lakh Onam kits and the Cabinet decided to add two more lakh families this time to make it 20 lakh.
The Chief Minister said that the Cabinet had also decided to provide free ration for one months to the families in Naripatta and Kayakkodi panchayats and other areas including Kavilampara and Kamputhode in Kozhikode district, where the maximum number of viral fever cases were reported in the State.
Mr Achuthandan also said that the Cabinet had also approved the MoU for formulating a Special Purpose Vehicle company for the construction of the proposed Kannur airport in the State.
The government would provide 1.70 acre of land for setting up of the proposed Central Marine Fisheries Institute, to be set up at Vizhinjam, hear here, on a lease for a period of 99 years, he added.
