Kerala challenges lower court order in Muthoot case

Kochi, December 22: The Kerala government today filed a petition in the high court challenging the action of a magisterial court in returning the charge sheet with some observations on the investigation in the Muthoot murder case.

Judicial Magistrate Ramankiri Subitha Chirakkal had returned the charge sheet with some observations regarding the manner of investigation.

The Special Investigation Team (SIT) had filed the charge sheet listing 25 accused in the case. The court had said the charge sheet was incomplete.

In a revision petition challenging the magistrate’s order, the public prosecutor pointed out that the magistrate had exceeded jurisdiction in making observations at this stage.

Paul George, executive director of the Muthoot group, a leading business conglomerate in Kerala with interest in several areas including financing and hospitality industry, was killed by a gang on August 21.
