KERALA: In a move to avert love affairs between Christian girls and Muslim boys a Christian BJP leader in Kerala has taken an initiative to set up a ‘Christian Helpline’ to prevent ‘love jihad’.
Renjith Abraham Thomas, a leader of the BJP’s minority religious wing, said he has got widespread support from his community.
The move has come after the latest incident in which the Kerala High Court annulled the marriage of a Hindu girl, who converted and married a Muslim. The High Court had declared the marriage null and void, questioning the girl’s mental capacity and the boy’s links to the Islamic State.
Thomas said. “Those who are into converting girls in the name of ‘love’ dared to protest against the High Court order and even called a hartal. This prompted us to do something to save girls from falling prey to so-called ‘love jihad’.”
He also said that in Kannur, a lot of Christian girls are mysteriously being converted to Islam. “In Kannur, Malappuram, Idukki and in Thrissur also, we have spotted a lot of such cases. Through this helpline, we will appoint people to counsel the girls who fall prey to it. We also hope the priests will support us in religious counselling sessions.”
He further added. “We are not against anyone. But at the same time, we have to protect the interest of our community. We don’t want export of human bombs from here. If the community is little alert, we can avert such situations.”
