Kenya, March 05: Kenya’s Prime Minister Raila Odinga has arrived in the Iranian capital, Tehran, for a two-day official visit to discuss bilateral ties with Iranian officials.
Odinga was welcomed at Mehrabad International Airport by Iranian Deputy Agricultural Jihad Minister Jahangir Pour-Hemmat on Saturday morning,
The Kenya premier, heading a political-economic delegation, is scheduled to meet with Iranian President Mahmoud Ahmadinejad.
He will also attend a ceremony to commence the construction of Iran’s largest grain terminal in the Iranian southern province of Khuzestan.
An Iranian official said Friday that Iran plans to build the country’s largest grain terminal in collaboration with the investment of the private sector and in partnership with Kenya at Imam Khomeini Port.
Ebrahim Eidani, the director of the Ports and Shipping Department of the southern city of Khorramshahr, said that the construction of the terminal would commence in a ceremony on Saturday.
According to Eidani, initial investment in the project is worth over 300 million dollars.
The expansion of relations with African countries in all political, economic and cultural fields is among the top priorities of Iran’s foreign policy.
President Ahmadinejad visited Kenya in 2009. During his visit, several memoranda of understanding were signed between the two countries.
