Washington: Kelly Clarkson has spoken out against Grammy President Neil Portnow after he said women wanting to be in the music industry need to ‘step up.’
The 35-year-old took to social media to slam Portnow as she wrote, “A confused soul said women need 2 “step up” their A-game if they wanna start winning & u know what I’m not even mad at ignorance.”
Earlier, pop-sensation Pink also posted a powerful response to Portnow’s comment.
“Women in music don’t need to ‘step up’-women have been stepping since the beginning of time. Stepping up, and also stepping aside,” Pink wrote in a note shared on the social platform. “Women owned music this year. They’ve been killing it. And every year before this.”
Portnow’s comment came after the hashtag #GrammysSoMale started trending on Twitter during the 2018 Grammys broadcast.
He had said, “I think it has to begin with women who have the creativity in their hearts and souls – who want to be musicians, who want to be engineers, who want to be producers, who want to be part of the industry on the executive level – to step up.” (ANI)
