Kejriwal Targets PM Modi Over Income Declaration Scheme

NEW DELHI: Hitting out at Prime Minister Narendra Modi, Delhi Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal today alleged that the centre was targeting the country’s small traders following the “failure” of its Income Declaration Scheme (IDS).

In his two-page letter to the Prime Minister, Mr Kejriwal claimed that centre has “failed” to take action against black money holders and it is now targeting country’s small traders to complete the target under the scheme.

“All the small shopkeepers and businessmen of country are afraid of new campaign launched by your Income Tax (I-T) department.

“There is news that small stalls of roadside like jalebi and vada pav sellers are being raided by IT officials and you have given orders to raid country’s one lakh small traders from October,” the chief minister said in the letter.

The Union Budget for 2016-17 had announced a 4-month compliance window, allowing domestic black money holders to declare their unaccounted wealth, pay a tax and penalty of 45 per cent and escape prosecution and harsher punishment.

The window under the Income Declaration Scheme (IDS) 2016 opened on June 1 and will close on September 30.
