Kejriwal, Sisodia felicitate 91 teachers

New Delhi: A nation cannot progress unless its teachers are honoured, Delhi Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal said here on the occasion of Teachers’ Day today.

The chief minister and his deputy Manish Sisodia felicitated 91 teachers of government and private schools in a function at Thyagaraj Stadium here.

“In the two-and-a-half years in power, we have started honouring the teachers and they played a crucial role in the turnaround in school education at Delhi government schools,” Kejriwal said.

Each awarded teacher received a cheque of Rs 25,000, besides a citation, medal and shawl.

Two special awards were also given on the recommendation of Sisodia, who also holds charge of education department.

The principal of government school in Tughlaqabad Manisha and her team were awarded for taking proactive measures to save school children from a poisonous gas leakage from a nearby container depot a few months ago.

The other recipient Murari Jha from Sarvodaya Vidyalaya, R K Puram, was awarded for his innovative method of social science teaching.

Sisodia lauded the teachers for being engaged in “the biggest task” of nation building and working on the Delhi government’s initiatives in the field of education.

The entire programme running over two hours was conducted by students of Delhi government schools.
