Kejriwal launches electricity bill disputes redressal scheme

New Delhi, Aug 30 : Delhi Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal on Sunday, launched the electricity bill disputes redressal scheme.

“If any area doesn’t get electricity for more than an hour, electricity companies responsible will be penalized,” Kejriwal said.

Kejriwal also lashed out at previous governments of Delhi for signing a 30 year long deal with the current electricity providers.

“Delhi uses around 5000-6000 MW of electricity. Half of this, we get in 5.50 rupee per unit from outside Delhi. We found out that there are companies in Delhi who are ready to provide electricity in 2-3 rupees per unit. But unfortunately, the previous governments have signed a 30-year long deal with these companies. And now, we have to buy electricity from them,” said Kejriwal.

Kejriwal appealed to the central government to help the Delhi Government in cancelling these contracts. “I request the central government to intervene and help us end this contract, so that we can provide cheaper electricity to the people of Delhi,” added Kejriwal.(ANI)
