Kejriwal announces Rs 1 crore for firemen’s kin

New Delhi: Delhi Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal on Sunday met the family of one of the firemen who died while dousing a fire here and announced a compensation of Rs 1 crore.

Hari Om, a Dwarka Sector 16 resident, along with his colleague Hari Singh Meena, died while extinguishing a fire in a shop here when a cooking gas cylinder inside the snack store exploded.

“Arvind Kejriwal meets fire fighter Hari Om’s family who lost his life on duty in Vikaspuri cylinder blast. Rs 1 crore compensation to be given,” Aam Aadmi Party’s Information Technology head Ankit Lal tweeted.

Delhi Fire Chief Atul Garg said though Meena was a resident of Alwar (Rajasthan), being an employee of Delhi Fire Service, he too would get Rs 1 crore compensation as per the policy of the Delhi government.

“The government’s policy is already there. If any person dies while performing their duty, they get the financial assistance… Both men would get it,” Garg told IANS.

The government had in September 2016 included firefighters under the policy that till then covered other uniformed services personnel only.
