KCR warns of civil war

New Delhi, April 17: A civil war will break out if bifurcation of Andhra Pradesh does not take place, Telangana Rashtra Samiti chief K Chandrasekhara Rao has warned.

“There will be a civil war. People of Telangana want a separate State and nothing less,’’ Rao told reporters here today after taking part in discussions with members of the Justice BN Srikrishna Committee.

Rao built a strong case for separate state before the panel. “The committee members, including Justice BN Srikrishna, appreciated the efforts of our party to support its argument with elaborate data. We have also made a PowerPoint presentation and the panel members said they would go through the data in detail and get back to him if necessary.’’ Rao said he failed to understand the logic for constituting the committe after announcing that the process for formation of Telangana State was being initiated.

“It is like holding the Nischitartham (betrothal) and then inviting the boy to `pelli choopulu’ (seeking matrimonial alliance). We had initially not wanted to submit any representation but later decided to put forth our argument.’’ The TRS chief said the panel members had told him that they had received representations from Andhra area, each one pressing for a different demand. But from Telangana, all the representations wanted only one thing: separate State,’’ Rao said. Nearly two months after it had been constituted, the Srikrishna Committee formally began the process of consultations with political parties and gave a patient hearing to the TRS delegation.

Earlier in the day, accompanied by Vijayashanti, Vinod and Jaishankar, the TRS supremo gave a presentation to the committee on how injustice was being meted out to the Telangana region, particularly in the matters of employment and education, for the last five decades. The committee will meet representatives of CPI, CPM and Praja Rajyam party (PRP) in Hyderabad on April 22 and 23.
