KCR vows to steer drive to resolve civic issues in city

Telangana Chief Minister K Chandrashekar Rao has appealed to the representatives of all political parties to extend their cooperation in resolving the civic problems being faced by the people of Hyderabad.

Addressing a review meeting at MCRHRD Institute at Jubilee Hills here on Tuesday, the Chief Minister said that the State Government was in receipt of several complaints related to voltage fluctuation and contamination of drinking water from different areas, especially the Old City of Hyderabad. He said that the State Government was serious on resolving those issues.

KCR claimed that the ‘Swachh Hyderabad’ programme was a grand success. He said representatives of all political parties participated in the programme and got themselves apprised of the problems being faced by the people. Besides taking up works like lifting of garbage, other basic amenities were also provided in many localities. Stating that Greater Hyderabad has an area of about 390 square kilometres, he said that the condition of 72 nalas was extremely bad due to improper maintenance and encroachments. He stressed the need for restoration of all the nalas in the city.

Similarly, KCR said that the city generates about 4,000 Metric Tonnes of garbage every day. However, there is no proper system to dispose the garbage and debris. He said a comprehensive plan was needed for lifting and disposal of garbage. He informed that the State Government would introduce auto-rickshaws for lifting of garbage from different areas. Garbage dumping yards would be established 50 kilometres outside the city limits. He suggested that the GHMC teams visit Delhi and Nagpur to study their systems of garbage disposal.

The Chief Minister also directed the officials to remove the hi-tension wires passing above residential areas. He said the electric wires pose a major threat to the lives of common people. He said permanent solutions should be evolved to address the problem of low voltage, especially in the Old City. He said reiterated that funds would not be a constraint in the development of Hyderabad.

The review meeting was also attended by Union Labour Minister Bandaru Dattatreyya, Deputy Chief Minister Mohammed Mahmood Ali, Ministers Nayani Narasimha Reddy, Talasani Srinivas Yadav and T Padma Rao and others. (INN)
