Telugu Desam Telangana leaders Errabelli Dayakar Rao, Revanth Reddy and Peddi Reddy today accused Telangana Government of insulting the farmers by neglecting their plight leading to suicides.
Speaking to reporters at Secretariat here, they alleged that the government is least bothered about the farmers issues. The TD leaders alleged that Chief Minister K Chandrasekhar Rao made Telangana into suicides’ State instead of a golden one.
The TD leaders called on Chief Secretary Rajiv Sharma and appealed to him to take steps to prevent suicides and take up the issue with the Centre for immediate succor on drought and immediate financial help. The government was insulting the farmers by ignoring their woes and issues, they criticized. They also found fault with the government for its version on Limbaiah’s suicide near Tank bund due to illphealth. As the government failed to check the unabated suicides and address the drought problems, the TD will take up Statewide protests soon, they warned. “We will meet the Union Agriculture Minister Radhamohan Singh for necessary help”, they said and alleged that the Telangana government is yet to seek its Central assistance.
While there about 1300 suicides by farmers so far taken place in the state, the government is putting at only 409, the fumed. Demanding a village wise survey for drought situation at all districts they asked the government to provide immediate help to the farmers to prevent suicides. Everyday four to eight suicides are being reported and Telangana state got a dubious distinction of second state in terms of more suicides at national level according to a survey. Despite these fatalities, the government is still adamant and yet to send drought related reports to the Centre they said. The TD will take up state level protests to press the government to address farmers’ issues they said. (NSS)
