Hyderabad: Chief Minister K Chandrashekhar Rao today stressed the urgent need for formulating a comprehensive national power policy to give qualitative and uninterrupted power to all the sectors. He said of the total captive power generation in the country was not even half of the required power and several parts in the country were living without power and at many places there are frequent power cuts all over the country.
Power Finance Corporation (PFC) Chairman Rajiv Sharma, who toured the State for three days and visited power plants and Kaleswaram project made a courteous call on the Chief Minister at Pragathi Bhavan and discussed about power situation in the State and in the country.
The Chief Minister explained that there was a severe power crisis at the time of formation of Telangana State and power deficit became a big hurdle for development of the State then. “We thought unless power problem was solved, the State cannot progress. Therefore, we adopted a comprehensive plan to set the power sector in order. Within six months, we have lifted power cuts. Now we are able to supply quality power to all sectors and providing 24-hour uninterrupted quality free power to the farm sector resulting in increase in agriculture output and Industries are working in three shifts leading to employment and increase in the State’s income. This day, we have 20,000 MW”, the CM explained.
KCR said for setting of power plants, revamping electricity related institutions, the Power Finance Corporation (PFC) had helped a lot. He also thanked PFC Chairman Rajiv Sharma for extending financial assistance to irrigation projects along with the power plants in the State.

PFC CMD Rajiv Sharma appreciated that in Telangana State under the visionary leadership of KCR, power plants and irrigation projects are being completed in a record time. He said he had not seen anywhere power plants and irrigation projects are being completed in such a short time. “Three-and-a- half years back, when we came to Hyderabad, KCR told us about Kaleswaram project and explained how the projects will going to be on a screen. I was surprised and wondered whether it would be possible. But I visited Kaleswaram project on Saturday and saw barrages and Pump Houses and also saw the way water from Godavari is pumped. The efforts of KCR bore fruit and the whole country was talking about the Kaleswaram project. At New York’s Time Square, they are showing the Kaleswaram project’s success story,” Rajiv Sharma said.
CM KCR, PFC CMD Rajiv Sharma, CS SK Joshi praised TS Genco and Transco CMD Prabhakar Rao for the success made in the power sector. CS Joshi said Prabhakar Rao, who completed 50 years in the power sector, is like modern “Bhishmacharya” in the power sector. Replying to the felicitation, Prabhakar Rao said good results were possible due to CM KCR, who had a complete awareness and grip over the power sector. The entire credit for solving the power crisis should go to the Chief Minister KCR, he said.
