Hyderabad, November 05: The suspense over whether the Telangana Rashtra Samithi (TRS) will contest the ensuing Greater Hyderabad Municipal Corporation (GHMC) elections is still continuing with the party chief K Chandrasekhara Rao not making any announcement on the party’s stand.
Tension is mounting on the party cadre with the nomination process coming to an end by November 6.
Even after hectic discussions in the party Politburo and State committee meetings, the party leadership was unable to take a decision on contesting the elections. The TRS chief did not announce any decision and he has not even visited the `Telangana Bhavan’ and it is learnt that the leader is continuing discussions with important leaders at an undisclosed place.
The cadre feel that after the demise of YS Rajasekhara Reddy, the TRS chief launched fight against State Government’s `Jalayagnam’ programme and vowed to continue the fight but suddenly dropped the agitation midway.
The party also strongly reacted to GO 135 permitting private power companies to sell 20 per cent power in the open market.
On Supreme Court judgment on Hyderabad free zone issue also the party launched agitation but ended with “jail bharo’’ and Siddipet public meeting programme.
The TRS leadership observed November 1 as `Vidroha Dinam’’ across the region and the party cadre and several Telangana organisations actively participated in it but were unable to continue the same tempo in continuing the movement, the party leaders felt.
In this backdrop GHMC elections became another problem to the leadership.
The party leaders openly admitted that any decision on GHMC elections would create negetive impact on TRS leadership.
