KCR sending wrong signals?

Adilabad, March 28: Had it not been for K. Chandrasekhar Rao’s vicissitude on getting accepted the resignations of recently suspended MLAs, Telangana Rashtra Samiti (TRS) would have witnessed some more important ‘joinings’ in the coming days. The leaders who were negotiating a respectable entry into the Telangana party now seem deterred also because of the rumours about its eventual merging with the Congress.

Plans dropped

It is public knowledge that Telugu Desam Party (TDP) leader and former Sirpur MLA Palvai Rajyalaxmi had seriously considered joining the TRS provided suspended MLA Kaveti Sammaiah’s resignation was accepted. She is reported to have dropped her plans to fill in the resultant vacuum in Sirpur constituency as events did not unfold according to her expectations.

Former Boath MLA and a TRS rebel Soyam Bapu Rao was also rumoured to be in touch with TRS top brass for gaining a re entry. He and former vice-chairman of Adilabad Zilla Parishad Juttu Ashok, who was also said to have explored the possibility of crossing over to TRS, have developed cold feet following the developments.

The talk of TRS-Congress merger also seems to have clouded the prospects of leaders, especially from the TDP, who had joined the TRS recently. For example, leaders like Kova Laxmi in Asifabad Assembly constituency and Satyanarayan Goud in Nirmal fear being relegated if the merger takes place.

According to supporters of the two leaders, they had joined the party to be rewarded in the shape of nominations in elections. While Ms. Laxmi nurtured hopes of contesting the next Assembly elections on a TRS ticket, the Nirmal TDP leader had expected the post of ZP chairman after local body elections.

Supporters point out similar anxiety in B. Goverdhan Reddy, a senior TDP leader in Adilabad to have joined TRS last year. He had changed sides looking for some important role to be played in the party’s progression.
