Telangana Chief Minister K Chandrashekar Rao on Tuesday stressed the need for streamlining the functioning of all universities in the State.
The Chief Minister held a review meeting at his camp office on Tuesday on the functioning of universities and appointment of Chancellors and Vice-Chancellors for them. He directed the officials to prepare the draft for new Universities Act. Objecting to the present system of having one Chancellor for all the Universities, he proposed that all universities should be headed by a dedicated Chancellor, who should be an expert academician.
KCR also proposed that the medical education should be brought under the control of Education Department on par with technical education. He said that the Education Department should act as a nodal agency for all the universities. He also asked the officials to prepare guidelines for the appointment of Vice-Chancellors and Registrars besides constituting Search Committees to pick Vice-Chancellors.
The Chief Minister also gave nod for the appointment of Prof. Yadaiah as the Registrar of JNTU. (INN)
