KCR promises to give 2BHK flats to poor in two years

Telangana Chief Minister K Chandrashekar Rao has promised to provide double bed-room flats to all poor persons in the next two years. He also announced that Hyderabad will be made a slum-free city soon.

KCR was addressing a meeting after distributing land pattas to 3,300 poor beneficiaries at Malkajgiri here on Friday. He said that as per GO 58 of Land Regularisation drive, the State Government received nearly 3.36 lakh applications for regularisation of encroached lands up to 125 sq yards. Of them, 1.25 lakh applications have been cleared and pattas were being issued to the beneficiaries at free of cost. Nearly one lakh applicants are from Greater Hyderabad area. He remaining applications were pending due to several legal and ownership disputes. However, he assured that those disputes would be sorted out soon.

The Chief Minister said the value of land, being regularised under GO 58, was around Rs 10,000 crore. He said nearly 2.50 lakh families were living in slums and huts. All these families would be given 2BHK flats under the weaker section housing scheme.

KCR alleged that previous Congress Government has demolished the slums areas. The party acquired land for its office by demolishing Bheemwada Basti and the hut dwellers were forced to live on city’s outskirts. He said former PCC President had encroached upon government land which was allotted for poor people.

The Chief Minister said that the dream of Bangaru Telangana could be fulfilled only after providing accommodation to all poor SC, ST and minority families. He said he was feeling happy while distributing the pattas among beneficiaries.

Deputy Chief Minister Kadiyam Srihari, TDP MP Malla Reddy and senior officials were also present on the occasion. (INN)
