KCR licensed private medical colleges for extortion: Sampath Kumar

Congress Legislature Party Whip A Sampath Kumar on Monday accused Chief Minister K Chandrashekhar Rao of giving license to private medical colleges to extort money from parents and students in the guise of admissions.

Speaking to media persons in Assembly premises here, Sampath Kumar said the Telangana Government has clubbed all management quota seats to form a 35 per cent pool which is being filled by the private medical colleges through their own entrance test. Further, the fee in management quota seats has been increased to Rs. 9 lakh from Rs. 2.5 lakh per annum. The 10 per cent B category seats were earlier merit-based management quota seats filled through Eamcet. Another 25 per cent of the management quota seats were filled directly by medical colleges. By making several changes in the system, KCR has literally launched the sale of medical seats in the State.

Sampath Kumar said due to the new system, the meritorious students belonging to SC, ST, BC and minority communities would never be able get admission in medical colleges. He said that the Congress party would support the agitation being planned by the students’ organisations in the regard. (INN)
