KCR lauds Nizams while celebrating anniversary

Hyderabad, September 18: Telangana Rashtra Samithi (TRS) president K Chandrasekhara Rao has once again reiterated his party demand that the State Government celebrate the Hydarabad Liberation day on September 17 officially which was the day when people were liberated from the Nizam rule of Hyderabad state which had comprised Telangana and parts of Karnataka and Maharahstra.

Rao used the occasion today to, once again, praise the Nizam rule by saying that Telangana people could never forget the developmental works taken up by the Nizam in the region. “If coastal people could praise and be grateful to Sir Arthur Cotton, a military engineer in the British government who built the Dowleswaram barrage at Rajahmundry and turned the Godavari districts into the `granary of the south’, what was wrong if Telangana people praised the Nizam who built several irrigation projects including the Nizam Sagar project in Nizamabad district?’’ Addressing a press conference at Telangana Bhavan here today, he alleged that people with vested interests were trying to disort Telangana history and criticising the Hyderabad Liberation day which was the day Telangana people really joined the free India and the national mainstream. He said Hyderabad state merged into India on September 17, 1948.

Even before the Nizams started ruling the region, Telangana was an independent country with a separate flag, the separatist leader claimed.
“Enough is enough. We are not ready to tolerate disortion of facts about the Telangana liberation struggle,’’ he said.
