KCR journey begins with Polavaram

K Chandrasekhar Rao, the Chief Minister of Telangana, has decided to take the battle over Polavaram project to Delhi. It is expected that KCR will take up the issue with Prime Minister Narendra Modi during his visit to the national capital this week.

Meanwhile, TRS MPs have make threats to stall Parliament when the session commences on Wednesday in pursuance of their demand that the ordinance transferring seven mandals from Telangana to AP be annulled.

Last week, KCR had called for a Telangana bandh in protest over the NDA government issuing the Polavaram ordinance.

A day after taking charge as the CM, the TRS chief is set to voice the concerns of Telangana in his capacity as the head of the state when he meets the PM and his cabinet colleagues.

According to TRS sources, KCR was likely to visit Delhi on June 6 and 7.

With the Parliament session scheduled to commence on Wednesday, the newly-elected eleven Lok Sabha members and the lone Rajya Sabha member of the TRS said they would stand united to stall the proceedings till the Centre drops the Polavaram ordinance.

“In the previous Lok Sabha, there were only two TRS MPs, but still KCR was able to voice the concerns of Telangana in the House and achieved statehood for the region. Now, we are eleven and we will battle it out to ensure that the ordinance is withdrawn. We will not allow the Lok Sabha to function,” Jitender Reddy told TOI before he left for Delhi.

The Lok Sabha is likely to be come to a close on the first day after expressing condolences over the untimely demise of Union minister Gopinath Munde, who died in a road accident on Tuesday.
On June 9, joint session is scheduled to address by President Pranab Mukherjee, while the following two days have been earmarked for regular business. It is then that the TRS MPs are likely to stage a protest and try to stall the proceedings.

“As such we are not against the Polvaram irrigation project. All that we are demanding is that seven mandals of Bhadrachalam must not go to Seemandhra and the design of the project must be changed so that the submergence of the tribal villages is avoided,” said Keshava Rao.

According to Sources close to the CM, the main focus would be on the controversy linked to the Polavaram irrigation project. Although he would seek justice for Telangana, KCR will also demand special category status to the new state and funds for its development.”

While the CM would not want to go on an altercation conduit with the Centre, he would not at the same time compromise with the interests of Telangana, the sources said.
