Hyderabad, June 30: Senior Congress leaders on Tuesday targeted Telangana Rashtra Samithi chief K Chandrasekhar Rao on his reported statement that Congress president Sonia Gandhi would open her eyes to the Telangana issue if Pradesh Congress Committee president D Srinivas loses the by-polls in Nizamabad.
Talking to media persons separately Congress leaders Mohan Reddy, Gandra Venkat Rama Reddy and Thulasi Reddy said that the reported statement made by KCR is childish. The leaders added that KCR is a political novice if compared to Mr Srinivas.
The senior Congress leaders reminded that Mr Srinivas had led the Congress to wins in 2004 and 2009 elections and also played a major role in forming government at the Centre by sending in a sizeable chunk of MPs from the state.
The leaders questioned how many seats had KCR managed to win for his party. Accusing the TRS leader of hampering real chances of bringing development for Telangana region, the Congress leaders said that by repeatedly forcing his party MLAs to resign from their seats and thrusting elections on them, KCR is harming not only the people of the state but also Telangana.
They questioned why had KCR not resigned from Lok Sabha himself but forced his MLAs resignations. The Congress leaders further questioned if KCR would have even formed the TRS had Telugu Desam Party chief N Chandrababu Naidu given him a ministerial berth a decade ago.
Throwing their weight behind the PCC president, the Congress leaders said that if Mr Srinivas wins, then he would become the Deputy Chief Minister and bring rapid development to the Telangana region.
The Congress leaders expressed confidence in the abilities of the people of Telangana in knowing who to vote for. They said that the people realise who their well wishers are and said that that Congress party has massive public support.
They further questioned that, if TRS is able to win all the 10 seats going to polls, would it be able to guarantee a separate Telangana state.
The Congress leaders reminded that in 2009, KCR had allied with TDP to fight the general elections but sensing wrongly that the NDA would win, had brushed aside the TDP and tried to ally with the main opposition party.
They reminded that the NDA had been in power and yet did not make Telangana statehood a reality, but now when it is not in power, it is promising something it cannot deliver.
