Chief Minister K Chandrashekar Rao has strongly defended his proposal to construct houses for poor on the land belonging to Osmania University.
Participating in the ‘Swachh Hyderabad’ programme at Budha Nagar in Secunderbad, KCR condemned the political parties and other groups for criticising his decision to utilise university’s land for weaker sections housing. He said that the Congress party failed to provide houses for the poor while in power. But now it is now opposing the TRS Government’s move to provide houses to the weaker sections.
KCR contended that the universities do not need thousands of acres of land. Citing an instance, he said that when the Centre asked him to identify 500 acres of land for Horticulture University, he convinced Prime Minister Narendra Modi that it could be established on just 50 acres. He said allocation of hundreds of acres of land for universities was the practice of ‘Rajas’ and ‘Maharajas’. In urban area, each and every inch of land must be put to use, he said.
The Chief Minster said hundreds of acres of land have been allocated for places like Race Course, Golf Club and other gambling dens. But a hue and cry is being raised when he proposed to construction houses for poor. He assured that 2 lakh houses for poor would be constructed on government land in the city in a phased manner. (INN)
