Even as entire nation and people of two Telugu States got glued to seats watching live funeral telecast of Missile Man” APJ Abdul Kalam, Telangana Chief Minister K Chandasekhar Rao could not make it to Rameshwaram in Chennai wherein the former President of India was put to rest on Thursday morning. While his Andhra Pradesh counterpart N Chandrababu Naidu shown much enthusiasm to pay last respects to Kalam at the burial ground near railway station in temple town. KCR, who already condoled the death at Hyderabad earlier, just stayed away from attending the funeral or did not send his envoy to pay homage.
From national capital, Prime Minister Narendra Modi along with Union Urban Development Minister M Venkaiah Naidu, Defence Manohar Parikker flew down to temple town to pay homage to the former President and spent time until the last minute of the funeral. AICC deputy chief Rahul Gandhi also offered floral tributes to Kalam on the occasion attended by former union minister Ghulam Nabi Azad and BJP leader Shahnawaz Hussain.
Though, Tamil Nadu Governor K Rosaiah took pains, owing to old age, to pay homage, Chief Minister J Jayalalitha, as already stated could not attend citing health reasons. Chief Ministers of Kerala and Karnataka Ommen Chandy and Sidha Ramaiah were those among paid their last respects to the former president. (NSS)
