Hyderabad: With Maharastra Government giving its nod for the much delayed and yet controversial turned barrages on Godavari, Penganga and Pranahita projects Telangana Government is to sign a deal soon. Both the governments agreed upon for the speedy completion of the projects that will cater to the needs of the people in both the states.
Telangana Chief Minister K Chandrasekhar Rao is to meet with his Maharasthra counterpart Devendra Fadnavis who invited the former for a formal meet to push the projects ahead. KCR extended thanks to Fadnavis for his initiative in this regard, a CMO release said. The two chief ministers will sign the deal for Kaleshwaram project and other barrages during their meet. KCR along with irrigation minister T Harish Rao and an official team will leave for Maharastra on Mar 7 and meet Fadnavis in Mumbai on Mar 8 to complete the process. On construction of the projects and barrages lakhs of acres will come under irrigation and use the waters for drinking purpose if necessary.
As per the plan it was proposed to construct five barrages including Rajapet, Pinpahad by Maharasthra and three at Medigadda on Godavari, Chanakha and Tummidihatti on Pranahitha in Adilabad by Telangana state. Telangana Government accorded administrative permissions for the projects it has to build. Aimed at irrigating 1 crore acrs of crops, Kaleshwaram project will irrigate crops in Karimnagar, Warangal, Nizamabad and Medak and drinking water to Hyderabad. (NSS)
