Chief Minister K Chandrashekar Rao has directed the officials to identity and acquire at least 2,000 acres of land to provide housing facility for nearly two lakh poor people.
During a review meeting with the officials held here on Wednesday, the Chief Minister enquired with the officials on the status of housing facility for poor. He was briefed that as per the Intensive Household Survey done in August last year, nearly two lakh poor people in the twin cities of Hyderabad and Secunderabad have no permanent houses. Therefore, the Chief Minister asked the officials to prepare a plan to construct houses for nearly two lakh people.
KCR directed GHMC Commissioner and Special Officer Somesh Kumar to identify and acquire all vacant lands in the city, including Banjara Hills, Jubilee Hills and other posh areas, for the construction of houses for poor. He said no single family in the city should be without a permanent house.
The Chief Minister said when hundreds of acres of land could be given to rich people for luxury housing and entertainment, huge land for industries and other establishments, then why 2,000 acres could not be acquired for housing for poor people. He said that the government would be constructed 2BHK flats on the acquired lands. (INN)
