The TRS chief K Chandrasekhara Rao today called for greater efforts to ensure that women get equal rights and opportunities.
Addressing a programme organized by the TKF on the occasion of the World Women’s Day at the Indira Priyadarshini auditorium here on Sunday, he said though India has great human resources, 20 per cent of the population was being excommunicated in the name of Dalit and lower castes. He said it was most unfortunate for the country that women who form half of the society were being confined to the kitchens.
He said it was not only improper that women were kept off from the nation building activity, it was also an impediment to the nation’s progress.
He called that the intelligence and skills of women should be utilized for the development of the nation. Coming back to the pet subject of Telangana, he said Telangana was not backward, but thrown into backwardness. Referring to the statement of the TDP leader Tummala Nageswara Rao on the Babli project issue, KCR said it was when he was the irrigation minister that tender process for the Babli project was undertaken by the Maharashtra government.
He questioned the TDP Chief Chandrababu Naidu why he had not obstructed the Babli project when he was the Chief Minister. He said if the TDP leaders want to know facts about the Babli project, they should either search the Google or Wikepedia on the internet. Stating that all the Babli damage was done during Chandrababu’s period, KCR charged the TDP chief of politicizing the issue now.
Claiming that it was TRS that first opposed the Babli project, KCR called upon the intellectuals to tell the common people, facts about the project. He also questioned Chandrababu and other TDP leaders why they were not questioning while water was being diverted to the Seemandhra region through projects like Pothireddypadu and Kandaleru that had no clearances.
KCR reiterated that the people of Telangana does not need the leadership of the Seemandhra leaders. He said they would rather prefer losing their heads than going back on the Telangana issue. He said there was no alternative for the Telangana state. He expressed anger stating that the TDP and Congress colluded to betray the Telangana region. Alleging that the state government was making the contract workers do slavery, KCR promised that the new Telangana government would make all of them permanent employees with the stroke of one GO. Referring to the talk of Chandrababu Naidu on prohibition, KCR said he was the very creator of liquor shops.
