KCR demands 700 jail posts for Telangana folks

Hyderabad, September 20: After agitations by the Group-1 aspirants and advocates from Telangana, a fresh row has erupted over the vacancies in the jails department. The department has recently issued a notification to fill 700 ministerial staff posts. A written test was also conducted. However, Telangana Rashtra Samithi (TRS) president K Chandrasekhar Rao today demanded that all the 700 posts should be given to Telangana candidates.

Addressing a meeting after inducting a large number of Congress and PRP workers into the party at Telangana Bhavan here, Rao said that of the 3,194 executive posts like jailors and wardens only 544 were occupied by those belonging to Telangana representing about 17 percent. Of the 1,000 ministerial staff, only 180 employees were from Telangana, he added.

Even if all the 700 posts notified recently were filled with Telangana youth, the Telangana share in the jails department would come to 38 percent, which was four percent short of the just share, he said.

Government whip S Sailajanath and MP Lagadapati Rajagopal should see that justice was done to Telangana youth, Rao demanded. Threatening that the TRS would launch an agitation if all the 700 posts were not given to Telangana youth, he wanted chief minister K Rosaiah to intervene.

Rao demanded that the chief minister should lead an all-party delegation to Delhi, as promised, to bring pressure on the Centre to declare that Hyderabad was not a free zone but part of the sixth zone. On the apprehensions by Sailajanath that Telangana people would resort to attacks on Seema-Andhra people, the TRS chief said that TRS never resorted to such acts.
