Hyderabad, April 15: A THREE-DAY Shata Chandi Yagam for realisation of separate Telangana state and for world peace, being performed by Telangana Rashtra Samithi president K Chandrasekhara Rao, began at a private farm house at Moinabad on the city’s outskirts today.
Clad in a red colour traditional dress, Rao, along with his wife, performed the initial rituals required to start the yagam which is being conducted by 64 Vedic pandits under the guidance of Vastu expert Vavilala Damodar Sharma.
Nakshatra japam, Navagraha japam, Kubera japam and Maha Pasupatastra homam are also being performed simultaneously along with the Chandi Yagam. Five Homagundams were prepared at the site which is spread over an area of 20 acres. An idol of Chandi is placed on a specially-arranged platform. Giant-sized flexies of Kali and other goddesses are displayed at tent specially-erected for the yagam. The Purnahuti will be performed on the last day i.e. Saturday.
Politburo member Vijayashanti and other important leaders of the party witnessed the rituals on the first day. Rao said he believed that Goddess Chandi would bless the Telangana people and fulfils their wish for a separate state. The yagam is also for peace in the world in general and in Telangana in particular, he said.
It is the third time he is performing this yagam since launching the party ten years ago. When he performed the yagam for the first time in 2004, the party got good results. In 2009, because of a minor flaw in the conduct of the yagam, the party did not fare well in the elections. Party leaders are hopeful that the yagam would give desired results this time.
The yagam will also mark the tenth anniversary of the party. From April 15 onwards the TRS will take up one political programme every day. It will celebrate its 10th anniversary at a public meeting to be held at the Parade Grounds in Secunderabad here on April 27.
