Chief Minister K Chandrasekhar Rao today said his government has prepared plans to distribute Manjira waters to irrigate agricultural lands in Medak district.
After a meeting followed by a survey of Ghanpur Anicut, lands and irrigation waters with officials here on Wednesday, the Chief Minister said steps will be taken to protect interests of the people and farmers for water. Admitting that Medak district was facing acute shortage of irrigation waters as Manjira was being diverted to Hyderabad for drinking purposes, the Chief Minister said while the Ghanpur Anicut was allocated 4.06 tmc waters to irrigate 25,000 acres, it was getting waters for only 12,000 acres in the district. “Now our aim is to distribute irrigation waters to all 25,000 acres and efforts will be made to irrigate another 5,000 acres”, he noted. Keeping this in view, the Government will work for reaching its aim to provide irrigation waters to Anicut area, the Chief Minister noted. Efforts were on to tackle the issue and officials will have to deliver goods with total commitment in this regard.
“Our objective will be reached by shifting Manjira waters to Medak and divert Krishna waters to Hyderabad for drinking water purpose”, KCR said. He directed the officials to take up disilting works, construction of bunds at the river side and provide waters to drinking and irrigation purposes. During the course, the irrigation officials have to maintain a standard storage of 1.5 tmc to 2.0 tmc waters using waters of Singur project, he added. (NSS)
